Position: Structural Project Engineer
Reports To: Engineer of Record

Role Overview:
The structural project engineer will support the structural project design team in the coordination and design of various structural building projects during both the design and construction phases. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Engineer of Record while working independently. Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams, design review meetings with supervisors, clients, and owners, and work sessions with owner-client agencies to address additional scope items.

  • Coordinate the design and documentation process to ensure construction documents are completed on schedule and within budget.

  • Develop and maintain structural specifications, select construction procedures, determine materials and member sizes, and perform all necessary calculations for accurate design.

  • Review shop drawings, RFIs (Requests for Information), change proposal requests, and change orders, and incorporate changes into project documents.

  • Communicate effectively through written and verbal means to relay design and coordination details to project team members, and prepare defensible engineering reports, memos, and correspondence.

  • Conduct site observations and site walks during construction, and author detailed observation reports during the construction administration phase.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis, or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering.

    • Master’s degree preferred but optional.

  • Licensure:

    • Professional Engineering (P.E.) or Structural Engineering license required.

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 4 years of progressive structural engineering experience in building design using steel, concrete, and/or masonry.

    • Strong foundation design expertise, including shallow and deep foundation systems with various building materials.

    • Proficiency in Revit Structure 2019 or newer for drafting and navigation.

    • Advanced skills in performing vertical and lateral analysis using software such as Risa Floor, Risa 3D, and ETABS.

    • Ability to verify computer-aided designs with hand calculations and create complex hand sketches for details and connections.

    • Expertise in steel design (e.G., diaphragms, collectors, braces, moment frames) and concrete design (e.G., member scheduling, rebar detailing).

    • Proficiency in masonry design and its connections to steel and concrete frames.

    • In-depth knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and related reference codes (ASCE, AISC, ACI, MSJC, NDS, PTI, etc.).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Bluebeam Studio Sessions.

    • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Client-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
