Lead the design, development, release, and validation of customized lithium-ion battery cells for demanding applications in government, military, aerospace, and specialty markets.
Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, design, development, and validation of lithium-ion battery cells, encompassing material components and product specifications.
Select, characterize, and validate materials and components, including cathodes, anodes, electrolytes, and separators.
Optimize electrode formulations through material characterization.
Design, execute, and analyze Design of Experiments (DOE) for cell design and fabrication process optimization.
Manage 1-2 direct reports.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:7+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery cell design and development.
Technical Skills:
Proven experience in designing and developing lithium-ion battery components, assemblies, cells, and formulations.
Deep understanding of materials used in lithium-ion cells, including active materials, binders, separators, and electrolytes.
Hands-on experience with lithium-ion cell product development through Design Verification, Design Validation, and mass production launch.
Expertise in electrochemical characterization techniques (cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, cycle life testing, abuse testing).
Strong statistical analysis and DOE methodologies skills.
Proven ability to conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions using DFMEA and PFMEA.
Familiarity with next-generation battery technology.
Other:
Comfortable supporting US military-funded work and building products for military testing and use.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field.
10+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery cell design and manufacturing. Ideally with pouch experience
Data analysis skills in Excel Macro language, Python, or MATLAB.
Six Sigma green belt, Design for Six Sigma, or robust design methodology expertise.
Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software and simulation/analysis tools.
Proficiency in applying GD&T for component and assembly prints and specifications.

Must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
