We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Research Scientist or Engineer to join our R&D team. As a key contributor, you will collaborate closely with R&D Management to spearhead research, development, and characterization of energy storage materials, process technologies, and cell components. Responsibilities:
Lead R&D projects and initiatives aimed at advancing lithium and lithium-ion battery technology.
Foster technical ideation to drive innovation in energy storage.
Develop and execute comprehensive R&D work plans and test strategies.
Conduct laboratory work focused on battery material sample preparation, electrode fabrication, and lithium battery testing.
Operate and maintain state-of-the-art lab equipment, including cell assembly machinery, mixing and coating devices, cell testing instruments, glove boxes, optical and electron microscopes, and analytical tools.
Effectively communicate research findings, conclusions, and insights through written reports and presentations to internal teams, customers, partners, and stakeholders.
Analyze and visualize test data to derive valuable insights and recommendations.
Utilize cell models and tools for the design and analysis of battery electrodes and components.
Support the generation of bids and proposals for research projects.
Participate in conferences and industry events to stay current with advancements in the field (1-4 times per year).
Contribute to lab management functions, including equipment and asset maintenance, chemical hygiene, environmental health and safety, and adherence to quality systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise a team of 1+ technical staff members, including laboratory technicians, scientists, and engineers.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. In chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, physics, materials science, materials engineering, or related fields.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in battery, electrochemical, or energy storage research, whether as a graduate student, postdoctoral researcher, or industry professional.
Highly preferred: Experience in lithium battery technologies, including lithium-ion, lithium metal, lithium-sulfur, solid-state batteries, silicon anodes, and solvent-free electrode processes.
Strong expertise in lithium-sulfur battery technology is a significant advantage.
Previous supervisory and project management experience or equivalent skills.
Preferred expertise in one or more of the following areas: battery industry, materials synthesis and analysis, electrode mixing/coating, lithium cell assembly and formation, and battery cell testing.
A proven track record of successfully securing R&D project funding.
A professional network including connections with universities, U.S. National laboratories, and industry partners.
