A client of ours is seeking experienced Mortgage Underwriters to join their organization. This is a fully remote opportunity!
The Mortgage Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and underwriting residential mortgage loans in accordance with investor and government agency guidelines. This role works closely with the Underwriting Manager and internal teams to ensure loan files meet all compliance and eligibility requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Underwrite loan files, including credit packages and appraisals, in accordance with investor and agency guidelines
Review and analyze borrower income, including personal and business tax returns
Evaluate loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and potential fraud risk
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
Work directly with loan originators to restructure or strengthen loan files when needed
Collaborate with processing and closing teams to ensure all underwriting conditions are satisfied prior to closing
Review and clear final conditions before loan funding
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of agency, investor, and regulatory requirements
Communicate with investors and government agencies to resolve file-level questions or issues
Qualifications
4+ years experience in mortgage underwriting or related mortgage industry roles
Strong knowledge of agency and investor guidelines
Ability to analyze complex income documentation and tax returns
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
