Mates Offshore
Galvaston, TX
MMC Mate (Pilot) (Self-Propelled Vessels / Towing Vessels - 300GRT or greater + any endorsements e.G. Oceans, Inland Waters, Rivers, etc.)
Compensation: $600/day
Plus Benefits



The mate is a member of the deck crew and his duty, among others, is to supervise and work together with the deck crew for works outside on deck of the dredge, and/or on dredge placement areas. The work may consist of rope handling on dredge/boats, shifting of dredge anchors, dredge pipeline handling, pump/cutter cleaning, painting, pressure washing, and other general duties as assigned. Duties may also occasionally include work at shore-based operations, spoil areas and placement areas.

This position being senior in his role to other deck crew, will be trained to operate the dredge, with objective to promote to future leverman. This position reports to the Dredge Captain
  • Handling of ropes and cables in the dredge and boating process
  • Shifting of dredge anchors
  • Cleaning of pumps/cutters, utilizing small hand tools
  • Ensure equipment is kept in a neat and orderly manner (items where they belong, ropes coiled neatly, interior and exterior cleaned and painted, )
  • Assisting in installation of pipelines over the water and onshore
  • Maintaining housekeeping on floating equipment and placement area site
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:
  • Prior Deckhand/Laborer experience
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended
  • Must be reliable and
  • Ability to obtain
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, a Mate must also be capable of:
  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and
