About Our Client:
Our client is a full-service project and construction management consulting firm with over 20 years of experience in the Los Angeles area. They are seeking a Design Manager III - Airport Terminal Projects for an upcoming project. The Design Manager III will join an existing team with the End-Client to lead design efforts on major capital improvement projects. The selected candidate will work closely with a diverse team of planners, architects, engineers, and other technical professionals to oversee the design of terminal and infrastructure improvements.

Candidates must meet all required qualifications:


Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Manage a multi-disciplined team of planners, architects, engineers, and other professionals to guide the planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and activation of various terminal and infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to develop a Business Case for potential capital projects.
  • Lead the development and presentation of preliminary design alternatives and comparative analyses to address stakeholder requests and feedback throughout the planning and design phases.
  • Oversee planning and design submittals to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance to applicable project requirements;provide constructive feedback regarding codes, regulations, industry standards, and performance requirements.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to balance project constraints and stakeholder interests, ensuring quality, cost efficiency, schedule adherence, sustainability, innovation, user experience, and operational flexibility.
  • Manage planning and design efforts across all project stages, from Project Definition through Construction Administration, to ensure that projects fulfill their objectives while adhering to schedule and budget constraints.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions as projects advance from planning through design, procurement, construction, and activation.
  • Ensure a cohesive architectural statement and user experience across multiple projects within the terminal environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of professional experience, preferably on large, complex airport capital projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerBI).
  • Familiarity with Planning & Design Software (AutoDesk, SketchUp).
  • Extensive experience in preparing Planning Documents and Preliminary Design Packages for Capital Projects, including Business Case, Alternatives Analysis, Project Definition Books, Concept Design, Schematic Design, and Technical Performance Criteria.
  • Proven track record in developing comprehensive Design & Construction Documents, such as Design Development, Bidding & Procurement Documents, Plan-Check & Permit Submittals, Construction Documents, RFI & Submittal Reviews, and Record Documents.
  • Experience with Alternative Delivery Methods, including Progressive Design-Build and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR).
  • Experience managing aviation projects and engaging with regulatory agencies, such as CBP, DHS, FAA, and TSA.
  • Strong background in Plan-Check and Permitting processes, with a preference for experience in the Los Angeles area.
  • Deep understanding of the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of complex facilities, including terminals, roadways, and related infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications - but Not Mandatory:
  • Licensed Architect or Engineer is desirable but not required.
  • Optional certifications such as AAAE, CASp, LEED, PMP, etc., are desirable.
