About the Opportunity:

Our client is a construction management firm supporting a large institutional facilities modernization program in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Design Manager to support the delivery of major K-12 and public infrastructure projects, working closely with architects, engineers, and internal teams to ensure design quality, compliance, and constructability.

This is a full-time, on-site role within a high-profile capital program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and direct design activities for modernization and critical repair projects
  • Serve as a lead design professional providing quality review and standards enforcement
    Manage multiple projects from concept through design approval and handoff to construction
  • Coordinate with architects, consultants, and internal district teams
  • Ensure designs comply with functional programs, budgets, environmental regulations, and legal requirements
  • Enforce compliance with building standards and educational facility requirements
    Provide clear direction on design goals, scope, schedules, and budgets
  • Manage design reviews, approvals, and documentation
  • Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget
  • Recommend architectural firms from pre-qualified firm rosters
  • Participate in community and stakeholder engagement related to facility projects
  • Coordinate with environmental health, facilities operations, safety, and occupancy teams


MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in facilities design or capital project planning, including:

    • Design management
    • Contract administration
    • Cost estimating
    • Scheduling

  • Minimum 5 years supporting educational facilities or similar public-sector agencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
  • Ability to work on-site full time in Los Angeles


Preferred Qualifications (Not mandatory)

  • Active California Registered Architect or Professional Engineer license
  • Experience managing large public-sector or institutional capital programs


Required Skills:
  • Strong architectural and engineering coordination skills
  • Ability to manage multiple design teams and consultants
  • High attention to documentation, compliance, and quality control
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to operate in a deadline-driven, regulated environment
