Draft initial closing checklists for attorney review
Assemble deal contacts, and create and manage distribution lists
Communicate directly with opposing counsel and clients when appropriate
Work directly with legal assistants at opposing firm to coordinate due diligence and keep matters moving forward;serve as first line contact when appropriate
Order and review typical due diligence items
Take an active role in updating checklists and communicating issues with opposing side and client, including calendar management;follow-up when appropriate
Review and prepare summaries of deal documents
Assist with drafting and updating basic loan documentation
Proofread own work and the work of others
Actively participate in the closing process, including distribution of signature, assembly of loan documents, review of final due diligence items, and final closing coordination with the bank
Conduct typical post-closing work, including organization of loan document transcripts, deliveries to client and opposing counsel, follow up on outstanding items, final title and recorded document reviews, clearing client file exceptions, and calendaring follow-up calls/emails
Lead conference calls when appropriate, particularly for checklist calls
THE ESSENTIALS
At least 2 years of experience as a commercial lending and real estate paralegal
A degree in paralegal studies, NALA paralegal certification, or a bachelor’s degree;or alternatively at least 5 years of demonstrative commensurate experience working as a lending/closing assistant with large commercial lender, title insurance company or similar role
Understanding of basic differences between types of deals (e.G., construction or non-construction) and other typical deal variations
Ability to juggle multiple files at once and calendar/follow up on items accordingly
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced team environment
Excellent oral and written communication and proofreading skills
Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and file sharing software (Sharefile, HighQ, etc.)
Must be a team player and able to work with all levels of staff, including firm administration and attorneys throughout the firm
