Position Overview: The Certified HUD Housing Counselor provides guidance and advice to individuals and families seeking assistance with housing needs, including rental, homeownership, foreclosure prevention, and financial management. This role involves working closely with clients to assess their housing situations, provide education, and help them navigate federal, state, and local housing programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Housing Counseling: Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to clients, assessing their financial situations and housing needs, and helping them develop an action plan to achieve their housing goals.
Education and Workshops: Conduct workshops on topics such as homebuyer education, foreclosure prevention, financial literacy, tenant rights, and rental assistance programs.
HUD Compliance: Ensure all counseling services are conducted in compliance with HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) regulations and guidelines.
Client Assistance: Assist clients with accessing various housing programs, including rental assistance, mortgage modifications, and down payment assistance.
Financial Assessment: Review client credit reports, budgets, and overall financial health to provide tailored advice on improving financial stability and preparing for homeownership.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate client files, including assessments, counseling plans, and follow-up documentation as required by HUD.
Community Engagement: Develop partnerships with local housing agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations to stay updated on available housing resources and expand service offerings.
Outreach: Work with marketing or community outreach teams to promote housing counseling services within the community.
Qualifications:
HUD Certification as a Housing Counselor (required).
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local housing programs, mortgage lending, and foreclosure prevention.
Experience in housing counseling, financial literacy training, or real estate.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competency.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
Bilingual skills (optional, but highly preferred)
Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in housing counseling
Familiarity with housing assistance programs such as Section 8, FHA loans, and foreclosure intervention programs.
