About the Role
We are looking for a Payroll Staff Accountant with 3+ years of payroll experience to support payroll operations for a multi‑state employee population of approximately 500–600 non‑exempt staff. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate compensation, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting internal reporting needs.
You’ll work closely with both payroll and accounting teams, contributing to month‑end processes, reconciliations, audits, and special projects. This is a great fit for someone who is detail‑oriented, analytical, and thrives in a fast‑paced, team‑focused environment.
What You’ll Do
Prepare accounting records and financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with departmental standards
Maintain the general ledger and complete month‑end balance sheet reconciliations
Perform bank statement reconciliations
Assist with payroll budget creation and monthly budget‑to‑actual reporting
Calculate special payroll items, including commissions
Support special projects and departmental initiatives
Back up payroll processing, including compiling and entering data, submitting bi‑weekly and semi‑monthly payroll files, and coordinating funding requests
Generate internal management reports using payroll software (ADP)
Assist or lead in audits such as 401(k), Workers’Compensation, and Payroll Tax
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;or 3–4 years of relevant experience
3+ years of payroll experience, ideally in a multi‑state environment
Hands‑on experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Paycor, or Ultipro (ADP Time & Attendance and Workforce Now preferred)
Strong understanding of deductions, benefits, and payroll tax processes
Practical knowledge of accounting principles and Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
Experience with commission calculations
High attention to detail and ability to manage large volumes of data
Strong communication skills and commitment to confidentiality
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a high‑demand environment
