Mechanical engineering responsibility for battery cells, modules, and packs, and mechanical integration for specific battery projects.
Prepare and lead requirements reviews, test readiness reviews, and design reviews to ensure that the product meets all stakeholder requirements.
Generate innovative detailed design concepts.
Direct the creation of models, prints, and BOM for design in a revision-controlled state throughout the development and production launch process.
Perform thermal, static stress, vibration, and shock analysis using simulation software.
Check part and assembly drawings, perform and document tolerance stack-up analysis, and implement GD&T on assembly and part drawings as necessary.
Define critical characteristics and inspection criteria for incoming components, assemblies, and final assemblies.
Create and release assembly and functional test specifications related to battery assemblies.
Support supplier evaluation and selection. Support activities related to the measurement of critical characteristics internally and at suppliers.
Create, support, and update DFMEAs and DVPRs as required.
Directly manage prototype creation, design validation, and production validation testing.
Drive closed-loop handling of all issues to prevent the propagation of risk, prevent recurrence of failures, and drive continuous improvement.
Assist in new project bids and proposals regarding cell, module, and pack concepts, feasibility, scope of work, cost, and timing.
Read and comprehend instructions and follow established procedures.
Performs in a manner that will prevent errors and omissions.
Provides advisory support and assistance to the department manager as needed.
Responsible for meeting team targets and key performance indicators.
Participate in activities needed to support the management functions of the team.
Follow all safety guidelines and operate safely.
Physical presence on the job is essential including weekends and holidays if deemed necessary.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’ s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Minimum of 7 years of product development and design release to production experience
2 years of battery or other electrical device product development experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in CAD software and Simulation/Analysis tools
Proficient in the application of GD&T for component and assembly prints and specifications
Practical experience in the design and application of structural parts fabricated from a variety of means such as molding, casting, machining, and additive manufacturing
DFMEA composition experience for electrical/mechanical systems
Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and visual
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel
FEA, thermal, vibration, and shock analysis experience
Design for Six Sigma project experience
Experience in the design of products involving electrical assemblies preferred
Battery system product development experience preferred
Phase-gate style product development process experience preferred
Data analysis skills in an Excel Macro language, Python, or MATLAB preferred

Familiarity with FEA, thermal, vibration, and shock analysis.
Design for Six Sigma project experience.
Preferred experience in designing products involving electrical assemblies.
Battery system product development experience is advantageous.
Familiarity with phase-gate style product development processes.
Preferred data analysis skills using Excel Macro language, Python, or MATLAB.
